family literacy events with the literacy lady
Bring Families Together. Strengthen Literacy. Transform Communities.
Why host a family literacy event?
Family literacy events are one of the most powerful ways schools and organizations can boost student success and serve your community. Research shows that when families are actively involved in their child’s education, children are more likely to:
Build stronger reading skills
Develop confidence and curiosity
Achieve higher academic outcomes
Be twice as likely to read at grade level by 3rd grade.
A home with just 25 books can significantly increase a child’s chances of finishing school. And children who grow up in homes with at least 100 books achieve, on average, 1.5 years more schooling than those with fewer books—regardless of their parents’ education or income level. When parents receive both books to take home and practical strategies, they feel supported and empowered - and kids thrive!
Create lasting impact in your school or community.

Engaging Event Options
✔ Family Literacy Nights – an inviting evening for parents and kids to learn and play together through hands-on activities.
✔ Parent Education Workshops – provide families with dinner (plus childcare!) and a peaceful night as they learn practical, quick strategies they can use at home to support reading and learning.
✔ Custom Hybrid Events – a blend of family activities, parent-focused sessions, make and take activities, and rotating sessions tailored to your community’s needs. -

Resources for Every Family
✔ Digital & Print Resources – access for your families to items they can take home and use right away!
✔ Free Books – all children and families in attendance at any of Katie’s events go home with FREE BOOKS. More books in homes = better outcomes. Books provided at no additional cost! ✔ Modeling & Demonstrations – makes family engagement come to life for families! Katie models the best way to get the most out of reading to your child, helping them choose books, practicing phonemic awareness in easy, practical ways, utilizing the local libraries, and so much more!*All literacy instruction for families is grounded in the science of reading: systematic, explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. I believe we can be structured, research based, AND joy filled and practical with how we help the children in our homes with literacy. Families can understand the research AND get tangible ways to support their children EASILY at home. Because parents do not need more work - they need more support.

“I am so amazed that (my son) now recalls so much about what he did during the day! You have a special formula!”
— Parent
“I noticed over the remainder of the summer that our daughter was picking up regular books and reading them to her little sister. She didn’t previously have the confidence to read anything other than leveled readers, so that was a big deal!”
— Parent
“We have been reading the books you recommended in our home every night, my teaching partner and I combined our books for a much improved classroom library, my kids already checked out books today on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, and dove into reading…Also, I’M reading more…this is truly all thanks to you! You are making a huge difference in people’s lives!”
— Teacher following PD
Wow, Katie! Thank you for meeting with my staff today at our staff meeting! Home Run! Your experience, excitement, and enthusiasm are contagious. Thank you presenting your program and all it encompasses! I believe there will continue to be opportunities for us to partner and work together!”

A Note From Katie…
As a longtime educator, Reading Specialist and founder of The Literacy Camp®, I’ve seen firsthand the difference family involvement makes. These events are not just about one night—they’re about sparking a ripple effect of learning, joy, and confidence that reaches every home.
As a mother, I also know how powerful it is to connect with someone who brings empathy and understanding to my own parenting journey—especially if they’ve been in my shoes. That’s the heart I bring to every Family Literacy Event: not just expertise, but real-life connection that makes parents and families to feel seen, supported, and equipped.
Together, we can calm the chaos, make learning feel fun, and set kids on a lifelong path as readers and learners.
You don’t have to support the families you work with on your own. We can create something special for your families and community—something that lasts.
Praying for you and cheering you on!
